Designing a simple LAN to 1 or 2 servers and 2 to 12 workstations is relatively very easy. Simply by connecting servers and workstations with a hub or switch, then we have to create a LAN that can work well. However, if the workstations are numerous and different floors or buildings, such as a network for the campus, planning or design of a LAN is not too easy. Many factors should we look for the LAN to work properly.
To design a complex LAN we can use the design hierarchy. The hierarchy model is a model for designing computer network that is widely used by network designers. With this hierarchical design model, the network is divided in three layers that stand on their own. The three layer hierarchical design model is as follows.
The core layer (Core)
This layer is the backbone (backbone) of the network. In this layer, data is transmitted as soon as possible using the methods and the fastest network protocols (high speed).
Layer Distribution (Distribution)
in this layer, place the division or the manufacture of the segments based on rules that will be used by a company, for example network is divided on the basis of the departments
Access Layer
At the access layer, the computer user is connected to access to the network. In this layer packet filtering more specific data can be done to prevent access to a particular computer
